1st Samuel 16:13 “Then Samuel took the horn of oil, and anointed him in the midst of his brethren: and the Spirit of the Lord came upon David from that day forward. So Samuel rose up, and went to Ramah.”

The even narrated in today’s text was a regular occurrence when people were anointed for God’s special purpose. The Spirit came upon them and they began to function in His bidding. Meaning as they received the sceptre of office they also received enablement.

God of those days is still at work today and He works in ways He chooses. One may receive the Spirit before or after the unction but this never affects the fact that God is still in the process. Rather than consider the vessel, consider the God at work.

Talk to God: Father, help me to always reference you in the lives of your vessels in Jesus’ name, amen.
