‘Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:’ – Galatians 3:13
‘Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.’-I John 3:9. Invariably, a Christian cannot sin, because being a Christian is an attribute of being born of God. When a man sins, at the exact point, he steps out of the umbrella of being God’s own (‘In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother.’-1John 3:10). Hence, his sonship, Christianity fails.
Why do we who have been saved thousands of years ago by the death and resurrection of Christ still fall short of the glory and grace mediated for us? Who does a man’s Christianity fail? There could be several answers to this, one very important is what we would examine; it is the ‘refusal of salvation won’. What does this mean? Titus 2:11 says, ‘For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men,’ It is clear, however, that not all men have accepted this Grace that has appeared to them, else, ‘all men’ would be save. The fact that a man has accepted this Grace is not the only thing that matters, but how continually steadfast he stands in the faith he claims to have. It is important to know that a Christian is not made only by a day confession but by continual renewal of this confession. That is why Philippians 2:12 says ‘…work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.’ For something to be worked out, it takes a process, undergoing due procedures.
Your Christianity often fails because you have not remained in the acceptance of the purification worked out for you on the cross of Calvary. The victory won for you more than two thousand years ago is not outdated; you only need to be renewed in your own mind. When the encounter you have with God is no longer fresh, you are the one becoming outdated, inconsistent in your work and what is needed to make you stand. Before you accuse men of shaking your stand with God, before you point fingers to some wrong doctrines that you have accepted of recent; check yourself out to see if you are still working out your own salvation, looking to the Author and Finisher of that faith.
From the opening text (Gal3:13), it is clear that a victory over the power of sin (even compounded by the law) has been won by Christ. Also, by this salvation we were born anew to be Children of God immune to sin. The reason this could no longer be realistic to us is that we often stop accepting the fact that we are Holy, chosen unto God. (I Peter 2:9). Do not succumb to whatever gives a name different from what God calls you.
