What Prayer is not

Matthew 6:5 “And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.”

It is possible for anyone to feel tempted to show off their abilities, including how developed their prayer life is, but Christ says here that such people have gotten their rewards: It is no longer prayer when it is centered around the comments and impressions of people.

When you pray, why do you pray? Prayer is not an opportunity to show people how close you are to God or just display your dedication. Be sure you are praying to God, not men.

Talk to God: Father, give me a heart that loves to commune with you in Jesus’ name, amen.
